Passwords and personal identification numbers (PINs) are part of the security measures that keep your information private when you use Web-based services, including banking services. Since they are part of the security measures that help keep your information private, be sure to keep them in a secure place, and do not share them with anyone. We will never ask you for your password or PIN and you should never give it out to us or anyone else asking you for it.

Common Questions

What is a password?
A password is a word or phrase that you determine. Once a password has been selected, you will use the password to gain access to your Online Banking or other type of Internet account. A good password contains a mixture of upper and lower case letters, numbers and/or special characters. A weak password is something easy to guess like your first name or your dog's name. The length of acceptable Passwords depends upon the level or type of security requirement and can range from six up to twenty characters.

What if I forget my password?
If you forget your password for NetConnection or PortLink, they are reset only by speaking with a Capital Bank customer service representative. They will reset with a generic password that you should change electronically. You will be asked to provide proof of identification (such as a driver's license, or registered banking information if speaking to a representative by phone).

What is a PIN?
PINs are a random string of numbers and/or letters assigned to each borrower on file. Certain portions of the information is passed through a hash-algorithm to derive a PIN. The actual algorithm is not published for security purposes. PINs are not sequentially assigned and are not directly related to your social security number, account number, date of birth, phone number or any other demographic information.

What is the difference between a PIN and a password?
A password is completely under your control. You may change your password at any time. PINS however are generally pre-assigned and linked to your Capital Connection, Telephone banking or your CapitalBank Check/debit card. Capital Connection PINS are usually the last 4 digits of the primary account holder’s SSN. If a joint account, both account holder’s will have their own 4 digit PIN.

Can I change my PIN?
Generally you can and should change a PIN if you believe the security has been compromised. PINs for check/debit cards can be changed at Capital Bank branch locations with proper identification. Capital Connection PINs can be changed by using the process in a call to Capital Connection or by calling a Customer Service Representative at 706-866-1146.
